The fall of the Ba'ath regime in 2003 and the radical changes it brought to Iraq's political, economic, and social situation, elevated the status of Kurds in many respects to a high level, to the extent that they played the role of a fundamental factor alongside Shia and Sunni Arabs and other different national and religious components in the process of rebuilding the Iraqi state. Therefore, Kurdish political representation in Baghdad came from the position of a declared and recognized federal region with great conviction that this issue could be resolved through constitutional and legal foundations and political understanding.
